Master Praetorians in 2026! Full guide to Romans, Barbarians & Egyptians — unit rosters, strengths, weaknesses, and pro tips. Cheats & beginner tactics included.
Three Civilizations, Three Playstyles
Praetorians features three playable factions — Romans, Barbarians (Gauls/Germans), and Egyptians. Each has a completely unique unit roster, strengths, and weaknesses. Understanding your faction is the key to winning.
🦅 Romans — Discipline & Formation
The Romans are the most versatile faction. Their strength is disciplined infantry with powerful formations.
Key Units
- Legionaries — The backbone. Can use Tortoise Formation (near-immune to arrows) and Stationary Formation (increased melee defense).
- Praetorian Guard — Elite heavy infantry. The strongest melee unit in the game. Requires high honor.
- Auxiliary Archers — Ranged support. Weaker than Egyptian archers but solid.
- Equites (Cavalry) — Roman horsemen. Good for flanking and chasing routed units.
- Hawk Scout — Sends a hawk for aerial reconnaissance. Reveals hidden enemies in forests.
- Battering Ram — Siege equipment for destroying fortifications and gates.
- Gladiators — Arena fighters. Very strong 1v1 but low numbers.
Playstyle: Advance slowly with Legionaries in Tortoise, archers behind, cavalry on flanks. Methodical and unstoppable.
🪓 Barbarians — Speed & Ambush
Barbarians are fast, aggressive, and excel at forest ambushes and guerrilla warfare.
Key Units
- Warriors — Cheap, fast, decent melee. Swarm enemies with numbers.
- Berserkers — Fearless melee infantry that never flee. Deal massive damage but die fast.
- German Cavalry — The best cavalry in the game. Fast, powerful charges, devastating flanks.
- Druids — Heal nearby units. Essential for sustaining your forces between fights.
- Wolf Scout — Reveals forests. Critical for finding Roman/Egyptian ambushes.
- Battering Log — Primitive siege weapon. Weaker than Roman rams but available earlier.
Playstyle: Hide Warriors and Berserkers in forests. Lure enemies in, then ambush from all sides with cavalry charging the rear. Hit-and-run.
🐍 Egyptians — Range & Exotics
Egyptians have the strongest ranged units and the most exotic roster including War Elephants and chariots.
Key Units
- Nubian Archers — The best archers in the game. Devastating volleys from high ground.
- Soldiers of Anubis — Elite melee infantry with strong defense. Egypt's Praetorian equivalent.
- War Elephants — Massive beasts that crush infantry and terrify enemies, causing morale breaks. The most powerful unit in the game. Requires very high honor.
- Chariots — Ranged cavalry. Fire arrows while moving. Excellent for kiting melee units.
- Camel Riders — Anti-cavalry specialists. Counter German Cavalry and Equites.
- Priests — Heal units. Egyptian equivalent of Druids.
Playstyle: Control high ground with Nubian Archers, screen with Soldiers of Anubis, and deploy War Elephants as an unstoppable centerpiece. Range dominance.
