Biggest Game Releases of August 2026 — Elden Ring on Switch 2 Headlines a Stacked Month
August 2026 Is Packed with Major Releases
Summer gaming droughts are supposed to be a thing — but not this year. August 2026 is delivering one of the most stacked single-month lineups in recent memory, headlined by Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition finally arriving on Nintendo Switch 2, the return of Metal Gear Solid with Master Collection Vol. 2, and a brand-new Star Wars tactics game from former XCOM developers. Here's everything worth playing this month.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition — Switch 2 (August 28)
The big one. FromSoftware's masterpiece is finally coming to Nintendo hardware — and it's bringing new content with it. The Tarnished Edition bundles the base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and exclusive additions:
- 2 new starting classes — Knight/Knightess of Ides and the Heavy Warrior
- 4 new armor sets — including ones tied to the new classes
- Torrent customization — new outfits for your spectral steed
- Price: $79.99
The road here wasn't smooth. When Bandai Namco brought a playable demo to Gamescom 2025, the game ran at a reported 15 frames per second — so poorly that the publisher blocked journalists from recording footage. FromSoftware then delayed the port from 2025 to 2026 for "performance adjustments." Updated previews from GDC 2026 showed major improvements, with the game targeting a stable 30fps. If the final product delivers on that promise, this becomes one of the biggest third-party achievements on Switch 2 hardware.
The new Tarnished Edition content will also be available as paid DLC on PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC on the same day.
Star Wars Zero Company (August 27)
A turn-based tactics game set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, developed by Bit Reactor — a studio founded by former Firaxis developers (the creators of XCOM). You lead an elite squad of operatives through tactical skirmishes hunting down a Separatist-aligned cult leader. If you loved XCOM or Fire Emblem, this should be on your radar.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 (August 27)
Konami continues its Metal Gear revival with Vol. 2, packaging classic entries for modern hardware. After Vol. 1 brought MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3 to current platforms, Vol. 2 is expected to include additional titles from the franchise.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy (August 27)
Asobo Studio returns to the Plague Tale universe with Resonance, continuing the story of Amicia and Hugo. The original A Plague Tale: Innocence was a breakout hit, and Requiem expanded on it beautifully. This third entry promises a conclusion to the story arc with refined stealth-action gameplay.
