Welcome to the Battlefields of Rome

Praetorians is not your typical RTS. There is no resource gathering — no gold mines, no lumber camps. Instead, your "resource" is population from captured villages and honor points earned through combat. This unique system makes Praetorians feel more like a tactical wargame than a base-builder. Here's everything new players need to know.

📌 Cheat Codes | Factions & Units

🏦

⚡ How Population & Recruitment Works

  • Villages are the only way to recruit troops. Capture a village by moving troops into it.
  • Each village has a population count. Recruiting a unit reduces the population.
  • Population regenerates slowly over time — don't drain a village completely.
  • Garrison troops inside villages to defend them. A lost village means lost recruitment.
  • Bigger villages = more population = faster recruitment. Prioritize capturing large settlements.
💎

⭐ Understanding Honor Points

Honor is earned by killing enemy units. More honor unlocks stronger elite units:

  • 0-49 Honor: Basic infantry only (Legionaries, Auxiliary Infantry)
  • 50-99 Honor: Mid-tier units (Cavalry, Archers, Siege equipment)
  • 100-149 Honor: Elite units (Praetorian Guard, German Cavalry)
  • 150+ Honor: Legendary units (War Elephants, Gladiators)

💡 Pro tip: Fight aggressively early to build honor. Passive players get stuck with weak units while aggressive players field elites.

🏔️ Terrain Is Everything

Praetorians' defining feature is terrain-based combat. The ground you fight on matters more than your unit count:

  • High ground — Units on hills deal more damage and take less. Always take the high ground before fighting.
  • Forests — Infantry hiding in forests are invisible until the enemy walks close. Devastating for ambushes.
  • Rivers & bridges — Chokepoints. Station archers on your side and force the enemy to cross under fire.
  • Open fields — Cavalry dominates here. Never send unsupported infantry across open ground against cavalry.
💼

⚔️ Combat Tips

  • Formation matters. Legionaries in Tortoise formation take almost no arrow damage. Use it when advancing under fire.
  • Flank with cavalry. Charging from the side or rear deals massive bonus damage and causes morale breaks.
  • Use scouts. Scouts are cheap and reveal hidden enemy units in forests. Never walk into forests blind.
  • Siege equipment is fragile. Always escort battering rams and catapults with infantry.
  • Morale breaks win battles. When a unit's morale drops to zero, they rout and flee. Flanking, charging, and overwhelming numbers all cause morale breaks.
