Praetorians' campaign follows a Roman general through 24 missions across Egypt, Gaul, and Italy — from the dusty deserts of Alexandria to the frozen forests of Gaul and finally the heart of Rome itself. This walkthrough covers key strategies and tips for the hardest missions.

The Egypt campaign serves as an extended tutorial. You command Roman troops against Egyptian forces in the desert.

• Mission 1-3: Learn basic movement, combat and village capture. Follow objectives carefully.
• Mission 4-5: First real challenge. Use Legionaries in Tortoise Formation against Nubian Archers. Advance slowly.
• Mission 6-8: Siege missions. Build battering rams and protect them with infantry screens. Take out archer towers first.

💡 Egypt tip: The AI loves Nubian Archers here. Tortoise Formation is your best friend. Never advance without it.

Gaul is significantly harder. Barbarian ambushes in forests, cavalry flanks, and limited visibility make every move dangerous.

• Mission 9-11: Forest-heavy maps. Send Hawk Scouts ahead ALWAYS. Barbarians hide Warriors and Berserkers in every forest.
• Mission 12-14: River crossings. Hold bridges with Legionaries in Stationary Formation. Let enemies come to you.
• Mission 15-16: Hardest Gaul missions. Multiple fronts, cavalry raids. Build defensive positions and expand methodically.

⚠️ Gaul danger: German Cavalry charges. Always keep your flanks protected. Unprotected archers get destroyed instantly.

The final campaign. You face the strongest Roman legions in a civil war for control of the Empire. Enemy forces mirror your own — Praetorian Guards, cavalry, siege equipment.

• Mission 17-20: Combined arms is essential. Mix Legionaries + Archers + Cavalry + Scouts.
• Mission 21-23: Siege enemy fortifications. Use multiple battering rams from different angles to split their defense.
• Mission 24 (Final): The siege of Rome. Capture all key points while defending against counterattacks. Use high honor units — Praetorian Guards and Gladiators are essential.

• Save before every engagement. Praetorians is unforgiving — a single bad battle can end your campaign run.
• Never leave villages undefended. The AI will sneak units behind your lines to recapture them.
• Build honor early. Fight every optional engagement in Egypt and early Gaul to bank honor for Italy's elite units.
• Use terrain religiously. High ground + forest edge = massive advantages. Never fight on flat open ground if you can avoid it.
