The Two Other Dimensions

Minecraft has three dimensions: the Overworld (where you start), the Nether (a hellish underworld), and the End (a void dimension with the final boss). You MUST visit both to progress — the Nether provides blaze rods for potions and Eyes of Ender, and the End holds the Ender Dragon, the game's final boss. This guide covers everything about both dimensions.

🔥 The Nether

Building a Nether Portal

  • You need a 4×5 frame of Obsidian (minimum 10 blocks, 14 for full frame)
  • Mine obsidian with a Diamond Pickaxe (takes 9.4 seconds per block). Get diamonds first: Diamond Guide
  • Light the portal with Flint & Steel (1 Iron Ingot + 1 Flint)
  • Step into the purple swirl and wait 4 seconds

Nether Biomes

  • Nether Wastes — Red, default biome. Ghasts, Piglins, Zombie Piglins. Nether Quartz and Gold here.
  • Crimson Forest — Red trees. Hoglins (hostile — drop pork). Piglins. Relatively safe.
  • Warped Forest — Blue trees. Endermen only — safest biome. Great for Ender Pearl farming.
  • Soul Sand Valley — Skeletons + Ghasts. Soul sand slows you down. Dangerous.
  • Basalt Deltas — Magma Cubes everywhere. Hardest biome to traverse. Great for Magma Cream.

What to Do in the Nether

  1. Find a Nether Fortress — Bridges and corridors made of Nether Bricks. Contains Blaze spawners and Wither Skeletons
  2. Kill Blazes — Get at least 7 Blaze Rods (6 for Eyes of Ender + 1 for brewing stand)
  3. Find a Bastion Remnant — Large Piglin structures with great loot, including Netherite upgrades
  4. Collect Ancient Debris — Mine at Y 15 in the Nether with a Diamond Pickaxe. 4 Ancient Debris + 4 Gold Ingots = 1 Netherite Ingot (best material in the game)
💎

🐉 The End

Finding the Stronghold

  1. Craft Eyes of Ender — 1 Blaze Powder + 1 Ender Pearl each. You need at least 12.
  2. Throw an Eye of Ender into the sky — it flies toward the nearest stronghold
  3. Follow the direction. When the eye starts going into the ground, dig down.
  4. Find the End Portal room — fill all 12 frames with Eyes of Ender
  5. Jump in

Fighting the Ender Dragon

  • Destroy the End Crystals first — they heal the dragon. Shoot them with arrows or climb up and hit them.
  • ⚠️ Some crystals are in cages — climb up and break the cage, then destroy the crystal. It explodes!
  • When the dragon perches on the fountain in the center, hit its head with your sword. This is your biggest damage window.
  • Bring: Diamond/Netherite sword (Sharpness V), bow (Power V, Infinity), full diamond/netherite armor, slow falling potions, pumpkin head (Endermen won't aggro), 2 stacks of blocks, golden apples

After the Dragon

  • Dragon Egg — Trophy item on the fountain. Push it with a piston or mine the block under it.
  • End Gateway — Small portal appears at the edge. Throw an Ender Pearl through it to reach the outer End islands.
  • End Cities — Contain Shulker Boxes (portable storage!) and Elytra (wings that let you fly!). The Elytra is the most game-changing item — found on End Ships next to End Cities.
