Starting GTA V — What Every New Player Needs to Know
GTA V is massive and overwhelming for first-time players. This guide covers the essential tips that will save you hours of frustration and help you get the most out of Los Santos from day one.
Tip 1 — Don't Rush the Story
The main story is ~30 hours long and incredibly well-written. Take your time to enjoy it. Side missions, stranger encounters, and random events are some of the best content in the game. However, there's one critical exception:

Tip 2 — Switch Characters Often
You can play as Michael, Franklin, or Trevor at almost any time. Each has a unique special ability, different vehicles and properties, and separate bank accounts. Switch often to experience the full game.
Tip 3 — Invest in Properties Early
Properties generate passive income every week. The best early investments are the taxi company, Los Santos Customs, and the Towing business. These pay for themselves within a few in-game weeks.
Tip 4 — Use Cheat Codes for Fun
After completing the story, cheats make the game infinitely replayable. Moon gravity + invincibility + all weapons = hours of chaos. Just remember: using cheats disables achievements for that session.
Tip 5 — Learn the Map
Los Santos is based on Los Angeles. The map has distinct regions: downtown (financial district), Vinewood (Hollywood), Vespucci Beach (Venice Beach), and rural Blaine County (desert, mountains). Learning the highways saves massive time.
