Can You Really Sell Game Accounts?
Selling game accounts and items is a massive underground economy. People pay real money for high-level accounts, rare skins and in-game currency across dozens of games. But it comes with risks — platform bans, scams and legal gray areas. This guide covers what works, what doesn't and how to stay safe.
⚠️ The Rules — Know Before You Sell
- 🔴 Steam ToS prohibits account selling. If caught, both buyer and seller accounts get permanently banned.
- 🟡 In-game items are generally tradeable — CS2 skins, TF2 keys, Dota 2 items can be sold legally through the Steam Market or third-party marketplaces.
- 🟡 Third-party games (Fortnite, LoL, etc.) — each game has its own ToS. Most prohibit account sales but enforcement varies.
- 🟢 Physical game codes and unused keys — generally legal to resell (you're selling the license key, not the account).
💰 What Sells & For How Much
✅ Safe Ways to Monetize Gaming
SAFE- Sell items through official markets (Steam Market, in-game trade systems)
- Cash out CS2/Dota skins on reputable third-party sites
- Sell unused game keys from bundles you've purchased
- Create content — YouTube, Twitch, guides. Monetize your knowledge.
- Boost services in games that allow it (check individual game ToS)
