Master Hunting in Red Dead Redemption 2

Hunting in RDR2 is deep, rewarding, and essential for upgrades. The Trapper requires perfect pelts for unique outfits, the camp needs provisions, and Legendary Animals give the best crafting materials. This guide covers everything from getting perfect pelts to finding every Legendary Animal.

🏦

How to Get Perfect Pelts (3-Star)

  1. Study the animal first — Use binoculars or your scope to study the animal (R1/RB). This reveals its quality (1-3 stars) and the best weapon.
  2. Only hunt 3-star animals — Using the right weapon on a 3-star animal = perfect pelt. Wrong weapon or lower quality animal = poor pelt.
  3. Weapon guide by size:
  • Small animals (rabbits, squirrels) — Small Game Arrows only (craft them)
  • Medium animals (coyotes, foxes, beavers) — Varmint Rifle
  • Large animals (deer, wolves, cougars) — Rifle with regular ammo or Rolling Block Rifle
  • Massive animals (bear, elk, moose, bison) — Rifle with High Velocity or Express ammo, or Improved Arrows

💡 Pro tip: Always use Dead Eye and aim for the head or heart. One-shot clean kills preserve pelt quality.

💎
