Bully Scholarship Edition Beginner Guide — Essential Tips & Tricks (2026)
Bully Scholarship Edition beginner guide 2026. School schedule, combat system, best weapons, money-making, map unlocks and common mistakes for new players.
Welcome to Bullworth Academy
Bully: Scholarship Edition is one of Rockstar's most underrated games. You play as Jimmy Hopkins, a 15-year-old troublemaker dropped off at Bullworth Academy — a corrupt boarding school ruled by cliques, bullies and crooked teachers. Unlike GTA, there are no guns or killing — instead, you'll fight with your fists, slingshots, stink bombs and itching powder. This guide covers everything a new player needs to know to survive and dominate Bullworth.

🏫 Understanding the School Day
Bully runs on a daily schedule, and time management is crucial:
- 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM — Free period. Explore, complete side tasks, or get to class early
- 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM — Morning class (mandatory). Skipping triggers Truancy Officers to chase you
- 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM — Lunch break. Free to explore the school grounds
- 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM — Afternoon class (mandatory). Same truancy rules apply
- 3:30 PM – 7:00 PM — Free time. Best window for missions and exploration
- 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM — Evening. Curfew begins. Prefects will chase you if caught outside dorms
- 11:00 PM – 1:00 AM — Late night. Extreme trouble if caught outside. Jimmy gets tired and must sleep
💡 Pro tip: Always attend both classes. The minigame rewards are incredibly powerful — permanent stat boosts, new weapons, and abilities. See our Classes Guide for all rewards.
⚔️ Combat System — How Fighting Works
Combat in Bully is melee-focused with lock-on targeting. Here's how to win every fight:
- Lock on (L1/LT) to focus on one enemy at a time
- Light attacks (Square/X) are fast but weak. Use for combos.
- Heavy attacks (Triangle/Y) are slow but deal double damage. Finish combos with these.
- Block (R1/RT) nullifies incoming attacks. Time it right before a hit for a perfect block → counter opportunity.
- Grapple (Circle/B) lets you grab enemies. From grapple: knee, headbutt, throw into objects, or give wedgies/swirlies near toilets!
- Dodge — Move + jump to roll sideways. Essential against Greasers and Jocks who hit hard.
Best Weapons by Chapter
- Chapter 1: Slingshot (aim for headshots), Stink Bombs (area denial), Firecrackers (stun groups)
- Chapter 2: Itching Powder (disables enemies), Eggs (ranged + humiliation)
- Chapter 3+: Super Slingshot (earned from classes), Bottle Rocket Launcher, Spud Gun
- Endgame: Upgraded Spud Gun is the most powerful ranged weapon. The baseball bat is the best melee weapon.
💰 Making Money
Money buys clothing, weapons, food, and carnival rides. Best ways to earn:
- Paper Route — Available early. Deliver newspapers on your bike for steady income ($30-50 per run). Fastest legitimate money method.
- Lawn Mowing — Side job. Simple minigame, pays $20-40 per lawn.
- Collecting Rubber Bands — 75 scattered across the map. Each one gives money and the full collection unlocks a powerful weapon.
- Fighting — Some students drop small amounts of cash when knocked out.
- Errands — Random NPCs with blue arrows ask for favors. Quick $5-15 each.
- Carnival Games — Win prizes and sell them at the pawn shop.
🗺️ Map & Exploration
Bullworth is split into areas that unlock as you progress through the story:
- Chapter 1: School grounds + Bullworth Town unlocked
- Chapter 2: New Coventry (Greaser territory) unlocked
- Chapter 3: Bullworth Vale (rich area) + Happy Volts Asylum
- Chapter 4: Blue Skies Industrial Park (Townie territory)
⚠️ Entering locked areas early triggers high Authority attention. Wait until the story unlocks them.
❌ Common Beginner Mistakes
- ❌ Skipping classes — The rewards are too good to miss. Art gives you weapons. Chemistry gives you stink bombs and firecrackers. Gym improves combat.
- ❌ Fighting prefects/police directly — They're much stronger than students. Run and hide instead.
- ❌ Ignoring the bike — Your BMX bike is the fastest travel method. Park it strategically near mission locations.
- ❌ Not sleeping — Jimmy's stamina depletes at night. If you don't sleep by 2 AM, you pass out wherever you are.
- ❌ Attacking girls — Jimmy refuses to hit female characters. This is intentional game design, not a bug.
