Halo Campaign Evolved beginner guide 2026. Weapon tier list, Noob Combo, combat tips, mission walkthrough, difficulty levels and what's new in the UE5 remake.
Welcome to the Ring, Spartan
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved in Unreal Engine 5, launched July 28, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC. Whether you're discovering Halo for the first time on PlayStation or returning to Alpha Halo after 25 years, this guide covers the essential tips, weapons, mission structure and co-op features to get you started.
🎮 What's New vs. the Original?
- ✅ Unreal Engine 5 visuals — complete graphical overhaul, new lighting, weather effects (fog, dynamic skies)
- ✅ Operation: METEORITE — 3 brand-new prequel missions with Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson aboard a Covenant research vessel
- ✅ Expanded levels — redesigned and new areas within classic missions
- ✅ Armor customization — personalize Master Chief's Mjolnir armor for the first time in campaign
- ✅ 4-player online co-op + 2-player splitscreen with full crossplay (Xbox/PS5/PC)
- ✅ Skulls system — optional modifiers that change combat (Grunt Birthday Party, IWHBYD, Iron, etc.)
- ✅ New weapons and vehicles from later Halo games integrated into the classic campaign
- ❌ No competitive multiplayer — this is campaign only (Halo Infinite handles multiplayer)
🔫 Weapon Tier List
S-Tier (Always Carry)
- M6D Pistol (Magnum) — The legendary Halo CE pistol is back. 3-shot headshot kill on most enemies. The best precision weapon in the game. Never drop it.
- Shotgun — Devastating at close range. Essential for Flood encounters. One-shots most Flood forms.
- Sniper Rifle — Two-shot kill on Hunters, one-shot headshot on Elites (unshielded). Perfect for open levels.
A-Tier (Situationally Excellent)
- Assault Rifle — Reliable spray weapon. Good against groups of Grunts and for hip-fire combat.
- Rocket Launcher — Two rockets per clip. Devastating against vehicles and tight groups. Limited ammo.
- Needler — Massively buffed in the remake. A full clip of tracking needles causes a "supercombine" explosion. Shreds Elites.
- Plasma Pistol — Charged shot instantly strips Elite shields. Follow up with a Magnum headshot = instant kill. The "Noob Combo" is still the meta.
⚔️ Combat Tips
- The Noob Combo dominates: Plasma Pistol charged shot → switch to Magnum → headshot. This kills any Elite in 2 actions. Learn it.
- Headshots matter. Grunts die in one Magnum headshot. Jackals die when you shoot through their hand-gap. Elites need shields dropped first.
- Melee is powerful. One melee from behind is an instant kill on most enemies. Approach from stealth when possible.
- Grenades are crowd control. Plasma grenades stick to enemies (guaranteed kill). Frag grenades bounce for area damage.
- Prioritize Elites first. They command Grunts — killing an Elite often causes remaining Grunts to panic and flee.
- Vehicles are your friend. The Warthog turret shreds everything. Have a Marine drive while you gun, or gun while a co-op partner drives.
🗺️ Mission Structure
The campaign follows the original 10-mission structure plus the new Operation: METEORITE prequel:
- Operation: METEORITE (NEW — 3 missions) — Prequel with Master Chief + Sgt. Johnson on a Covenant vessel
- The Pillar of Autumn — Tutorial level, escape the crashing ship
- Halo — Open-world exploration of the ring, rescue Marines
- The Truth and Reconciliation — Night infiltration of a Covenant cruiser to rescue Captain Keyes
- The Silent Cartographer — Beach assault + island map room (iconic level)
- Assault on the Control Room — Massive military push through snowy canyons
- 343 Guilty Spark — Horror level. First encounter with the Flood.
- The Library — The hardest level. Endless Flood waves in a Forerunner facility.
- Two Betrayals — Assault on the Control Room in reverse, fighting Flood AND Covenant
- Keyes — Rescue mission in a Flood-infested Covenant ship
- The Maw — Final level. Warthog escape run as the Pillar of Autumn detonates.
💀 Difficulty Levels
- Easy — For experiencing the story. Enemies are weak, ammo is plentiful.
- Normal — Balanced challenge. Recommended for first-time Halo players.
- Heroic — "The way Halo is meant to be played" (per Bungie). Enemies are aggressive and smart.
- Legendary — Extremely hard. Enemies deal massive damage, shields recharge slowly. For veterans only.
- LASO (Legendary All Skulls On) — The ultimate challenge. Legendary difficulty with all Skulls activated.
