Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 doesn't have traditional cheat codes you type in, but it has powerful exploits, secret units, hidden tricks, and ini file edits that give you massive advantages. This guide covers every known trick for the base game and Yuri's Revenge expansion.
🔧 INI File Edit — Unlimited Money & Instant Build
The most powerful "cheat" in RA2 is editing the rules.ini file:
- Navigate to the Red Alert 2 installation folder
- Open ra2.mix with an MIX editor (like XCC Mixer)
- Extract rules.ini
- Edit the following values:
- Starting money: Change
Storage=values to increase starting credits - Build speed: Change
BuildSpeed=to 0.1 for near-instant construction - Unit cost: Set
Cost=to 1 for any unit/building to make everything free
⚠️ Warning: INI edits only work in skirmish/singleplayer. They don't work in online multiplayer.
🕵️ Secret Units — Spy Infiltration
Infiltrating enemy buildings with a Spy unlocks special units and bonuses:
- Spy → Allied Battle Lab = Unlocks Chrono Commando (Chrono Legionnaire + Navy SEAL combined — teleports and plants C4)
- Spy → Soviet Battle Lab = Unlocks Psi Commando (mind control + C4 charges)
- Spy → Allied Barracks = Your infantry are promoted to veteran status
- Spy → Soviet War Factory = Your vehicles are promoted to veteran status
- Spy → Refinery = Steals half the enemy's credits
- Spy → Power Plant = Disables enemy power for 1 minute
💣 Invincible Demolition Trucks
Build 5-6 Soviet Demolition Trucks, charge your Iron Curtain fully, then drive the trucks into the enemy base. Activate the Iron Curtain on them before enemy weapons hit — the trucks become invincible and reach their targets guaranteed. Devastation.
🚌 Trojan Bus Trick
As Soviets, use Yuri to mind-control a civilian school bus. Load 5 infantry into it and drive it inside an enemy Allied base — the AI won't fire on a school bus. Unload your troops inside their defenses for a surprise attack.
⚡ More Exploits
- Chrono Prison: Build a walled square, place 4+ Prism Towers inside. Use the Chronosphere to teleport an enemy vehicle into the prison — instant death.
- Ore Purifier stack: Building multiple Ore Purifiers stacks the credit bonus on each Harvester load. 3 Purifiers = massive income boost.
- Wall-off Harvesters: Block enemy Harvesters with cheap walls near their Refinery. Their economy collapses.
- HIRES mode: At the main menu, type HIRES to enable higher resolution display.
